911 Emergency Windsor/Essex Health Coalition Meeting
Wednesday, February 10th at 6:30 pm 2345 Central Avenue, 2nd Floor Windsor, Ontario Dear citizens: The Windsor/Essex Health Coalition is respectfully encouraging you to attend our upcoming meeting as we must begin to imagine, plan and act upon how we will respond to a number of key health care issues, which will require immediate and longer term approaches to ensure that our public health care services are not further slashed by governments, or left undefended by by for profit financial interests. In Windsor alone, more than 86,000 hours per year of hands-on nursing care were slashed between 2013/14. Windsor hospitals are full to overflowing, and cuts across the entire region threaten to put more pressure on Windsor’s already overstretched hospitals. Just recently, Windsor Regional Hospital announced it will be cutting 166 jobs over the next year in an attempt to make up for a $20 million funding shortfall. Such a massive cut will have a major impact on patients and departments all across the hospital will be affected, including vital support services, health professionals and nursing. The RN cuts alone will equate to a quarter million hours of RN care annually at Windsor Regional. These cost-cutting measures are intended to save dollars without any concern for the needs of patients. Today our hospitals are completely full they are running at full capacity with absolutely no surplus of staff or services. The stress being put on patients and their families is unthinkable and these cuts will inevitably harm patients and reduce patient care. Also on our radar, is the need to broaden awareness and develop inclusive community strategies that help address concerns with proposed home care changes, massive deficiencies in our long-term care system and some serious issues that need to be addressed around with a proposed new hospital in our region. Please come out to join us. Respectfully, The Windsor Essex Health Care Coalition |
